Disability Should Not Stop You From College
It is quite challenging for disabled minorities to be accepted in a normal environment. But such view does not stop many disabled persons from getting through college and getting their degree and having a better chance at life.
There are several groups that have formed to specifically aid in the education of the disabled minority. Because their numbers are small, they are often placed under the umbrella of other minorities and sometimes, they do not get the college scholarship funding and college tuition grant they need because they are often overlooked. But with the emergence of these groups, more and more programs are now being created particularly to serve the disabled group.
The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation is specially designed for physically disabled women who want to pursue higher learning. Basically, the college grants and reduced college tuition cost programs of the foundation aims to 1) financially support disabled women in their goal to achieve higher learning; and 2) to encourage women in general, to become actively involve and be aware that they have become a significant minority.
Another organization that has been actively supporting the disabled minority is the Learning Disabilities Association. More than just grants and college scholarships for college students with certain disabilities, the Learning Disabilities Association has been keen on providing special services and resources to people with learning disabilities like dyslexia and ADHD.
Being disabled does not stop you from being a person. You have the right to education same as everyone else. You can learn more of the education opportunities by visiting your state’s department for disabled persons or log on and search the web.
